Mariam Natroshvili
— Museum on Call — Contemporary Art in Georgia

on Wednesday, February 26, at 7 pm (FAMU, Smetanovo nábřeží 2, Prague 1)

The Museum of Contemporary Art Tbilisi is a museum on move, a museum “on call” that tells various stories with photographic and video documentation of the previously selected works of Georgian artists. The museum is an attempt to re-think and re-evaluates important works of Georgian contemporary art and topics from new history. The Museum of Contemporary Art – Tbilisi investigates a contemporary art in Georgia in a socio-political and historical context that in its turn reflects the country’s latest history. Museum describes time through contemporary art. The project also challenges the traditional form of a museum and delivers contemporary art to the broad public in an experimental way.

Mariam Natroshvili is Tbilisi based artist and researcher. Since 2011 she works in collaboration with Detu Jincharadze. A key element of their art practice is a text written “off the page”. Mariam and Detu are founders of the museum on the move – Museum of Contemporary Art, Tbilisi. Recently they have founded platform of words Frequently asked questions, that involves all kinds of text-related formats. Mariam and Detu have participated in numerous exhibitions and festivals in Georgia, Turkey, Switzerland, Germany etc.

The lecture is held in cooperation with the Center for Audiovisual Studies and the Department of Photography of FAMU. It will take place in the FAMU building at Smetanova nábřeží 1, Prague 1 (U1).

The lecture takes place during her study visit to Prague, where he was invited through the Fotograf Residency program for curators and artists from the Visegrad countries and Georgia.
