CAKEBREAK matket
— the 80s are more than David Bowie

22.10. 2011, 2 pm - 7 pm

ART.DESIGN.BOOK.PHOTOGRAPHY.PLACARD.MOVIE.1980.1989

Here it is. We got together with Fotograf Gallery. We like exhibitions and beautiful launch parties, nice artists and interesting projects. And now we’ve found all that in one spot. So after the flea market, there will be an exchange (swap meet) in Školská Street: an official meeting of art traders. We will take it by topic, and this time we have the 80s in our sights.

Ghostbusters, The Breakfast Club, Madonna with her bra made by Jean-Paul Gaultier, and also Apple’s legendary commercial or the unforgettable Knight Rider. Gilbert and George win the Turner Prize, in our country the Atika group of designers is formed and Rain Main wins an Oscar.

Those were tough times, and we’re not talking about jackets with shoulder pads. On the afternoon of 22nd October, we will share all this and so much more using the period catchphrase “Back to the Future”.

We’re preparing stands with period designs, fashion, artistic publications issued between 1980 and 1989 or reflecting the period, vinyl records and posters for you. If the weather is nice, the event will take place outside in the courtyard. If the weather’s bad, we’ll be inside in Fotograf Gallery. Entry to the event is free and you can also take part!

You have two options:

1. FOTOGRAF FESTIVAL stand with sale on commission

Any interested parties who might have a couple of items at home can take part in the sales exchange (swap meet). Fotograf Festival has set up a special stand with sales on commission, where all you have to do is send an email to cakebreakcakebreak@gmail.com or sign up on the spot during the morning hours on the day of the event, set the price for the goods you wish to sell and then just wait anxiously to see if someone is interested in buying your stuff. Please send ONLY photos of objects from the 1980s. Thank you for your understanding. (We are especially looking forward to cassette tapes, video games and toys!!!)

2. Your own stand at the exchange (for collectors, professionals, superheroes)

If you don’t have enough confidence and feel you won’t be able to offer visitors a comprehensive stand focused on part of the 1980s (period comics, books, music posters or t-shirts…), then write us at cakebreakcakebreak@gmail.com with an exact description of the goods you wish to sell and send a photo or link to a webpage. We will evaluate your request and if the goods are suitable for the exchange event (swap meet), we will contact you. Sellers that will be attending the event include

Nanovo design
Shop selling, not just, Czechoslovak designs from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Furniture, home decor accessories, memorabilia.

Rayon Roulette Vintage: 80’s fashion, accessories…
ODtuzex :(not just) period sunglasses and toys … you know them from the cakebreak flea market.
Art Antique Store online: A new antique store with books focused on art, beautifully-bound books, binding, typography, illustrations, original posters and postcards. It offers the best of the 80s.

Mingus Antique Store: Representatives of the Mingus Antique Store took part in the CAKEBREAK flea market at MeetFactory. This time, they will bring vinyl records and other materials relating to the 80s to Fotograf Gallery.
Artarchiv: The Fine Arts Archive will organize, during Fotograf Festival, an exhibition and also put up for sale at the exchange (swap meet) materials from its archives. Catalogs, invitations, publications…
Fotograf Magazine and the Artmap book store:  At a joint stand run by Fotograf Magazine and the recently-established Artmap book store, you will find all available issues of Fotograf Magazine, a catalog of Mutating Media Mapping Photography that was first published at the end of the 80s, and much more.

A book bazaar by the group, “Co čteme / What we read”:  perhaps you know them from the Oko cinema! They will be there among the other traders. Bring a book or leave with one: books written between 1980 and 1989 – and all for free.
!BISTRO!
Matejizna In Da Kitchn: Matěj is preparing homemade snacks for visitors. In addition to excellent sandwich spreads, he will also make – on site, before your very eyes – stuffed baguettes and homemade pâtés and will dare serve you some baba ganoush and “kavak” pickled cheese. We will be pouring glasses of F.H. Prager’s apple cider. You may have also seen Matěj at the Živé město picnic or at the flea market in the Dejvice club house. And, as usual, we will have a cakebreak stand with vegan cakes and pies.

We will share the names of other sellers soon!

The exchange (swap meet) is part of the Fotograf Festival.

We will have thematic slideshows on site, as well as decoration, etc. There will be a lot to see and do. We look forward to seeing you at the Fotograf Festival.
