Fotograf Gallery Issues Open Call for Window Exhibition for Students, Emerging Artists and Amateurs.

In this open call for an exhibition project at the Fotograf Gallery, we have decided to explore a theme that has emerged in recent years not only among the young generation of artists: turning inward and examining the self. We are interested in projects that focus on the formation of personal identity within the context of a contemporary world defined by crises and pervasive digital imagery. We seek works that are introspective in nature, whether they involve self-fiction, autobiographical narratives, or the creation of personal stories.
The selected project will be exhibited in the window of Fotograf Gallery (Jungmannova 19/7), Prague 1) from 8 January to 6 February 2025. We welcome photographic works and moving images, and we are, in principle, open to other media as well. The gallery space will be open to the public three times during the exhibition’s run (for the vernissage on 7 January 2025, for the closing on 6 February 2025 and for one accompanying event). The authors of the selected project will receive a fee of CZK 10,000, along with an additional CZK 5,000 to cover production costs. They may, but are not required to, participate in the preparation of the accompanying program. The installation of the exhibition will take place in the first week of January 2025 with the assistance of the gallery team; the gallery does not cover costs for travel and accommodation.
The exhibition space consists of 2 windows measuring 179 x 219 cm and 179 x 323 cm, with a 140cm-wide windowsill behind the windows in the gallery.
Jury and curatorial supervision of the exhibition: András Cséfalvay (visual artist, teacher, and musician), Anežka Janushka Kořínková (curator and theorist), Tereza Rudolf (art critic and curator), Viktoria Vítů (director of Fotograf Gallery and art historian).
The deadline for applications is 1 November 2024.

The Fotograf Gallery focuses on the role of photography in the post-media situation of contemporary art, for which the broader area of photographic thinking is particularly relevant. It does not necessarily materialize in the form of a photographic artifact, but as a way of looking at and grasping reality, or as a basis or means of conceptual and contextual operations in which photography is treated as a specific carrier of visual information.
