Fotograf Gallery builds upon and is the result of eight-years existence of the Fotograf magazine, which very succesfuly documents and helps to create the shape of the Czech photographic and artistic scene at the same time that works as connection with the international panorama. Fotograf Gallery was established on November 2009 as a gallery and multifuncional centre and its aim was mainly to cover all the spheres of photography and new media and related art. On one hand, it represents an open window for outstanding czech and foreign authors, which aim is to show the youngest progressive generation of artists as well as the older generation and artists whose work was wrongfully underestimated. Furthermore, the gallery would like to support curatorial projects either with a national or an international character, through all the generations, which would include more than just the sphere of photography itself. Organizators found the obligatory contents of the program, based on a dialogue between photography and art in general and the connection of the national and international scenes as important as cooperation and development of mutual projects with other galleries, institutions or research organizations.

Fotograf Gallery is connected with the magazine Fotograf and link to its history. The magazine has extraordinary role among other Czech periodicals. In the international context it is ranked among important magazines as are the Spanish Exit, the German European Photography or the American Aperture, which all pursue to the topics of contemporary photography. Magazine Fotograf is regurarly issued since 2002, in Czech and English version, and every issue is thematic. This is kind of a timeless aspect and it provides the possibility to get back to particular issue as a source of studying material. It obtains an addinional quality compared to standart art journals.

Fotograf Gallery and the Fotograf magazine belongs under the Civil Assosiation Fotograf 07 o.s. The initiator and founder member of the FS is Pavel Baňka, the main curator is Jiří Ptáček.
